T-Mobile’s Exclusive 5G Internet Offer: Free 50-Inch Smart TV

T-Mobile recently concluded a limited-time promotion, offering a free 50-inch Amazon Fire TV 4K smart TV valued at $450 to new customers signing up for its 5G Home Internet service. This exclusive online deal, available from November 24 to November 29, required customers to sign up during this period, with a 30-day window to claim the offer. Notably, this promotional offer ended on November 29.

The 5G Home Internet service is a fixed wireless access (FWA) offering, with T-Mobile determining eligible customers based on available capacity. While the company hasn’t disclosed the number of participants, interested customers should be aware that the TV is not instantly available. Instead, they will receive an email approximately two months after submitting the promotion request to redeem the offer.

TechRadar highlights the Amazon Fire TV 50-inch 4-Series 4K smart TV as a popular choice on Amazon, maintaining its status as one of the best post-Cyber Monday TV deals. Valued at $309.99, the TV is available on online platforms such as Amazon and Best Buy.

According to Roger Entner, founder of Recon Analytics, T-Mobile’s giveaway can be likened to the common inclusion of free gift cards with wireless phone offers, estimating its value at around $200. While the TV may not be a high-end model, Entner suggests the decision boils down to personal preference—opting for a free TV or a $200 gift card that allows flexibility in TV selection.

Bill Ho, principal analyst at 556 Ventures, notes that the two-month waiting period is a strategic move by T-Mobile to mitigate risk. The fine print indicates that the TV is only compatible with the T-Mobile Gateway for in-home use at the activation location, limiting it to one TV per account, and incurs a $35 connection charge. Ho suggests that if the promotion proves profitable, it might reappear in a different form next year.

This isn’t the first time T-Mobile has offered such promotions. In 2018, they had a holiday offer where mobile customers could receive a free TV from Samsung with the purchase of a Samsung flagship smartphone.

As the year-end approaches, industry analysts are keen to see how these promotions impact T-Mobile’s fourth-quarter high-speed internet net additions. The carrier added 557,000 high-speed internet customers in Q3 2023, and last year’s fourth quarter saw an addition of 524,000 high-speed internet customers.

Looking at the broader wireless landscape, the most aggressive deals this year are attributed to T-Mobile and Verizon, according to data from Navi analyzed by MoffettNathanson. AT&T, while offering discounts, is noted as the most promotional player in the industry, competing vigorously against cable providers.

In a recent poll by Recon Analytics involving 7,073 respondents, 27% believed T-Mobile offered the best Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, matching Verizon’s percentage. AT&T secured 17%, followed by Metro by T-Mobile at 7%, Xfinity at 7%, Spectrum at 6%, and Mint Mobile at 5%.

As the holiday season continues, the dynamics of the market could shift, and new promotions may emerge. Analysts emphasize that while Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday are crucial, there are still several weeks before Christmas, with the potential for extended or new promotions.
